Anonymous asked: Tom, I have a problem, I like Jessica Drew and would love to give my money to a ongoing, but I don't like Greg Land, what should I do?

People should perhaps stop asking this same passive-aggressive question every time we announce that Greg is drawing something. It accomplishes nothing.

In every case, the situation is exactly the same: the choice is yours. You can choose to read the series, or you can choose not to read the series. Your choice.

Oh God I hate this so much.

Greg Land draws women whose facial expressions are static and out of place, who are insanely thin, have no hips- like their pelvises are MISSING- and in general is someone whose work I find to be boring or tasteless in turns.

So you take a character I care about- Iron Man, the X-Men, Spiderwoman- and give them a title I want to support with a writer I love- Fraction, Carey- and then say oh, well, if you don’t like that ONE CHANGEABLE ASPECT of this book, I guess this book just isn’t for you.

Well, okay, fine, I won’t buy them then. I’ll borrow or steal them to keep up with the story, and will support the writers and characters I care about and want to continue seeing showcased in other ways if possible, and vote against the artist with my dollars and just hope you somehow figure out that it’s the artist I’m voting against and not the writer or the colorist or the heroine-lead book since sales matter and having a discussion with the people that MAKE THE COMICS apparently doesn’t.

I think fans of anything can be a bunch of whining jerks, and I understand an editor’s impetus to defend and protect their employees, but this kind of lazy shrugging-off of a genuine question from a fan who wants to support an industry without blindly supporting people whose work they don’t enjoy, it just fucking drives me up a wall.

Not liking an artist because their work kills your ability to enjoy a book you might otherwise dedicate your time and money to, asking how to make it known you want to support a project but you think the artist they chose is a hack so you don’t want to- that’s passive aggressive?

Well here’s aggressive-aggressive: Greg Land sucks, and I won’t spend money on anything he does. Not that saying as much matters, apparently.

Cripes.
